NATICK, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team, ranked 28th in the most recent ITA national poll, suffered its third loss of the spring with a 9-0 setback against sixth-ranked Amherst College on Friday night as part of the Nor'easter Bowl at the Natick Racquet Club.
Babson, which has dropped four straight matches going back to the fall, is now 11-5 overall, while Amherst has won three straight to move to 5-4 on the year.
Playing without its top doubles tandem, the Beavers won just two total points in three doubles matches to go down 3-0. The Green and White did not fare much better in singles as Amherst won all six matches in straight sets.
First-year Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.), who is ranked 17th in the most recent regional rankings, dropped a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 decision at number one, while senior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) suffered a 6-0, 6-2 setback at number two. Sophomore Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) was defeated 6-1, 6-0 at number four and classmate Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) was downed 6-1, 6-1 at number five.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Rensselaer at the Natick Racquet Club at 5 p.m.
