Women's Tennis Downs Springfield, 9-0, in NEWMAC Opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team swept all three points in doubles and then won all six singles matches in straight sets to complete a 9-0 victory over Springfield College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Courts.

With the win, the Beavers are now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Pride drops to 0-1 overall and in the NEWMAC.

Senior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and junior Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) got the day started with an 8-2 win at number two doubles. Junior Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and first-year Tatiana Ramirez (Miami, Fla.) followed with an 8-5 triumph at number three and the duo of junior Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) and sophomore Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) pulled out an 8-6 victory at number one.

Ramirez breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win at number two singles, while Akgul and Foster both posted 6-2, 6-0 victories in their matches at number one and five, respectively. Kam had little trouble in a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at number six and Brandt was a 6-3, 7-5 winner at number four.

Weick finished off the shutout with a 6-2, 6-1 result at third singles.

Babson returns to action on Thursday when it visits Roger Williams at 4 p.m. Springfield travels to Wheaton next Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.

•    The Beavers are now 20-4 all-time against Springfield and have won 19 straight matches against the Pride going back to 2000.
•    Babson has won 10 its NEWMAC opener in each of the last 10 seasons dating back to 2007.
•    With two more victories on Saturday, Akgul is now tied for 13th in program history with 74 combined singles and doubles wins.
•    The Green and White is 13-2 in the month of September going back to 2014.
