Women's Tennis Remains Perfect With 9-0 Win over Smith

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College breezed to its fifth consecutive shutout on Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over visiting Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action.

With the win, the Beavers are now 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Smith drops to 1-2 and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.

For the second day in a row, Babson dropped just three games in doubles. Senior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and junior Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) won 8-1 at number, juniors Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) picked up an 8-2 victory at number two and the first-year duo of Tatiana Ramirez (Miami, Fla.) and Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) posted an 8-0 result at number three.

Akgul won the first set 6-0 before her opponent at number singles retired, while Kam recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number five. Weick was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at number three and Roeper dropped just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at number six.

Foster posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number four and Ramirez closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number two.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Nichols at 3:30 p.m., while Smith takes on Wheaton at 1 p.m.

•    The Beavers are 14-15 over their last 29 meetings against Smith going back to 1989. They have dominated the series as of late with 10 straight wins.
•    Babson is 5-0 for the third straight year, and has won its first three NEWMAC matches for the fourth time in the last six years.
•    The Beavers have won 16 of their last 18 matches in the month of September.
•    Babson has swept all three doubles points against the Pioneers in six consecutive seasons.
