Women's Tennis Cruises Past Wheaton, 8-1

NORTON, Mass.—Junior Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.), sophomore Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) and first-year Tatiana Ramirez (Miami, Fla.) were all victorious in both singles and doubles as visiting Babson College cruised to an 8-1 win over Wheaton College in New England and Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, Babson is now 8-2 overall and 5-2 in league player, while Wheaton falls to 3-4 overall and in the NEWMAC.

The Beavers got off to a fast start by sweeping three points in doubles. Senior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and junior Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) were 8-1 winners at number one, Brandt and junior Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) breezed to an 8-1 victory at number two and Ramirez and Foster posted an 8-4 result at number three.

Ramirez and Foster both won 6-4, 6-0 at first and fourth singles, respectively, while Brandt recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number three. Junior Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and first-year Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) posted matching 6-1, 6-0 results at number five and six for the Green and White.

Babson will host Mount Holyoke in its conference finale on Saturday at 11 a.m., while Wheaton takes on Endicott on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

•    The Beavers are now 14-11 all-time against Wheaton and have won four straight matches in the series going back to 2013.
•    With Tuesday's win, Babson locked up the right to host one of two NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal matches against either the Lyons or Springfield on October 19.
•    Tuesday's victory helps the Green and White improve to 9-4 on the road over the last two seasons.
