WALTHAM, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 9-0 loss at 18th-ranked Brandeis University on Thursday afternoon.
With the loss, Babson falls to 10-4 on the year, while Brandeis snaps a two-match losing streak to improve to 9-3 overall.
Senior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and sophomore Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) played the Beavers' closest match of the day before falling 9-7 at number two doubles to sophomore Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and junior Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.). Junior Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and sophomore Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) dropped an 8-3 decision at number one, while junior Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and first-year Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) were dealt an 8-4 setback at number three.
The Judges completed the sweep with straight-set victories in all six singles matches. Gianelos suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss to first-year Sabrina Ross Neergaard (Port Orchard, Wash.), the region's 13th-ranked player, at number one, while Kam was downed 6-4, 6-2 at number six.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it visits Trinity at 2 p.m., while Brandeis hosts Wheaton on Sunday at 10 a.m.
