Beavers Win Nine of 11 Doubles Matches in 2017-18 Debut

LEWISTON, Maine—The Babson College women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2017-18 campaign at the Wallach Invitational Doubles Tournament hosted by Bates College on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers competed against the host Bobcats, Brandeis, Colby and Trinity, winning nine of 11 matches on the day.

Highlighting Babson's successful debut was the pairing of senior Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) and Alexa Tutecky (North York, Ontario), who went 4-0 on the day. Akgul, the reigning NEWMAC Player of the Year, also became the seventh player in program history to surpass 100 combined singles and doubles wins while improving her career doubles record to 54-10.

The pairing of junior Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) and first-year Carolina Merz (Santa Tecla, El Salvador) went 1-1, as did the duo of seniors Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii). Kam and Merz won their only match together against Bates, while Foster and first-year Ally Kaden (Brielle, N.J.) posted a victory against Colby.

Sophomores Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) and Tatiana Ramirez (Miami, fla.) won their only match of the day against Trinity.
