WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team received one first-place vote and came in second when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Thursday afternoon.
MIT, which captured its second straight conference championship last season, garnered eight of nine first-place votes to finish atop the poll. Defending tournament runner-up Wellesley came in just behind the Beavers in third, while Mount Holyoke College and Wheaton College round out the top five.
Babson brings back six players from a team that finished 10-8 overall and 6-2 in league play last season. The Green and White, which has won at least 10 matches in six of the last seven years under veteran head coach Jim Berrigan, advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals last fall.
The Beavers open their spring schedule on Sunday, March 4, when they face St. Lawrence at the Boston Sports Club at 10 a.m.
