Beavers Off to Best Conference Start Since 2003 at 4-0
BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis team is off to its best start in conference play since 2003 after defeating visting Mount Holyoke College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday night inside the Boston Sports Club.
With the victory, Babson improves to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in league play for the first time in 14 years. Mount Holyoke drops to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in the NEWMAC with the loss.
The Beavers breezed through doubles dropping just six total games on the way to building a 3-0 lead. Senior Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland) and first-year Alexa Tutecky (North York, Ontario) were 8-0 winners at number one, while the pairings of senior Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and first-year Carolina Merz (Santa Tecla, El Salvador) and senior Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and sophomore Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) posted matching 8-3 results and number two and three, respectively.
Tutecky won 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles, Merz cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 result at number two, and Quenard posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory at number three. Foster recorded a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at number four, Kam was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at number five, and Roeper finished off the shutout with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at number six.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday as the Beavers travel to nationally-ranked Wellesley at 4:30 p.m., while Mount Holyoke visits Springfield at 4 p.m.
