WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College sophomore Carolina Merz (Santa Tecla, El Salvador) was tabbed as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Merz stayed unbeaten on the year at number one singles with a pair of straight-set victories in a 2-0 week for the Beavers. She posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Smith's Allison Ahern on Tuesday and followed it up with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Mount Holyoke's Ayame Yazawa to help Babson remain unbeaten in league play on Saturday.
The team's leader in both singles and doubles victories, Merz is 3-0 at number one singles and 4-1 at number three on the year. She is also a perfect 4-0 in league matches, and has helped the Beavers begin conference play with four consecutive wins for the second year in a row and third time since 2003.
Babson (7-4, 4-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Wellesley at 3:30 p.m.
