WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis program swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards on Monday as sophomore Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C.) was tabbed as the singles player of the week, and joined classmate Alexa Tutecky (North York, Ontario) on the doubles team of the week.
Tamarkin extended her personal winning streak to eight matches with three victories in three straight days last week. She took out Isabelle Garvanne of Wheaton in straight sets at number two singles on Tuesday, rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 victory over Michaela Markwart of Wellelsey at number three on Tuesday, and blanked Cara McCormack of Endicott 6-0, 6-0 at number three to help the Beavers win their eighth match in a row on Thursday.
Tutecky and Tamarkin, who are ranked 15th in the northeast region by the ITA, won all three of their matches at number one doubles. They topped Garvanne and Ines de Bracamonte of Wheaton 8-6 on Tuesday, defeated Selina Peng and Libby Chang of Wellesley on Wednesday, and posted an easy 8-1 win over the Gulls' duo of Fernanda Trevino and Gretta Hartman to wrap up the week on Thursday.
Babson (12-4, 7-0 NEWMAC) will host MIT on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. The winner will claim the NEWMAC regular season title and the top seed in next week's conference tournament.
