Raffone Breaks School Record in 100-Meter Dash, Becomes Program's First NEWMAC Individual Champion Since 2015
BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College junior Angelina Raffone (Westbrook, Conn.) broke her own school record twice and captured the individual title in the 100-meter dash at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on April 28 at Springfield College.
The fastest woman in program history, Raffone's time of 12.28 bettered her own previous school mark by 0.02 seconds and was the top time among 19 sprinters in the 100-meter prelims. She followed it up with an even better performance in the final, crossing the finish line in 12.20 seconds to shatter her previous mark while finishing 0.09 seconds ahead of Wheaton College's Briana Gausland.
Raffone, who collected the first all-conference honor of her career, became the program's first individual NEWMAC champion since 2015 and just the fourth in program history. She would go on to cap a tremendous 2018 campaign by earning all-region honors with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA New England Championships, in addition to recording a 10th-place showing at the NEICAAA Championships.
