Volleyball Wins One Of Three At Western Connecticut State Tournament

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Babson College women's volleyball team traveled to Western Connecticut State University this weekend, where the Beavers won one and lost two as part of the Colonials' two-day invitational tournament. Junior libero Shanna Glassner (Orland Park, Ill.) was named to the All-Tournament team after totaling 41 digs, seven kills, and three aces in the three matches.
On Friday night, Babson fell to Emmanuel College, 3-1, winning the first set, 25-23, before dropping three straight, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19. Despite the loss, junior Caitlin O'Neill (Lynnfield, Mass.) was outstanding for the Beavers, recording 14 kills with just four errors to go with three digs, two aces, and two blocks. First-year Meg Flaherty (Hollis, N.H.) added nine kills and eight digs, junior tri-captain Becca Rydzik (Beacon Falls, Conn.) contributed seven kills and two aces, and Glassner chipped in with 15 digs and two aces. First-year setter Anna Belz (Bayport, N.Y.) also had a strong match, posting 35 assists and 12 digs.
The Beavers began Saturday's play with a 3-0 (25-14-, 25-12, 25-19) loss to the host Colonials, despite 17 more digs from Glassner. Flaherty paced the offense with seven kills, while Belz dished out 21 assists. Babson then rebounded with an impressive 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-14) victory over Eastern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon. O'Neill hit .438 with eight kills with only one error on 16 attempts while also adding five aces and three total blocks. Flaherty also hit well, posting a .467 percentage with nine kills and two errors on 15 attacks, while also serving four aces. Glassner contributed nine more digs, Belz added 26 assists and seven digs, and Rydzik chipped in with five kills and six digs.
