Volleyball Dismisses Lasell, 3-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College women's volleyball team recovered from a sluggish start to sweep visiting Lasell College, 3-0, in a non-conference contest on Thursday night. With the win, the Beavers improved to 15-10 on the season, while the Lasers dipped to 9-17.

Lasell jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead in the opening set, but Babson rallied with a 12-5 run of its own to even the score at 17-17. The score was still tied, 21-21, late in the frame, but the Beavers closed with a 4-1 run to take the opener, 25-22. The hosts would then lead throughout most of the remaining two sets, winning by scores of 25-17 and 25-11.

First-year Meg Flaherty (Hollis, N.H.) paced Babson with 12 kills, while junior Caitlin O'Neill (Lynnfield, Mass.) added 10 kills and two block assists. First-year Anna Belz (Bayport, N.Y.) had a stellar match at the setter position, leading the team with 30 assists while also adding 10 digs, and junior libero Shanna Glassner (Orland Park, Ill.) spearheaded the defense with a team-high 17 digs to go with four service aces. Junior tri-captain Becca Rydzik (Beacon Falls, Conn.) contributed seven kills in the win, and first-year Alexa Untermann (Honolulu, Hawaii) chipped in with six kills and three assists. First-year Francesca Sagripanti (Bel Air, Md.) also saw her first action of the season for the Beavers, finishing with three digs.

Lasell's attack was led by senior Kelsey Schmidt (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and first-year Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine), who each finished with five kills. Defensively, junior libero Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) recorded a team-high 12 digs, while first-year setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) added 10 digs and 15 assists.
