Babson Volleyball Downs Clark, 3-1, To Earn Highest Regular Season Finish Since 1993

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College women's volleyball team capped off their outstanding regular season with another strong showing on Saturday, as the Beavers defeated visiting Clark University, 3-1, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Babson's Staake Gymnasium. With the win, Babson improved to 16-10 overall and 5-4 in the conference and finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the NEWMAC standings - the program's highest finish since placing third in 1993. Due to tie-breaking procedures, the Beavers will be seeded sixth in the conference tournament and will head to #3 MIT for a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, November 4, at 7 p.m.
Junior Caitlin O'Neill (Lynnfield, Mass.) had another tremendous match in the win for Babson, hitting .406 with 17 kills to go with three aces and four digs. First-year Meg Flaherty (Hollis, N.H.) also hit well, posting a .333 percentage with 12 kills while also adding five aces. Junior Shanna Glassner (Orland Park, Mass.) added 16 digs in the victory, while first-year Anna Belz (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded 41 assists, three aces, and eight digs.
Prior to Saturday's match, there was a brief ceremony in honor of Babson senior tri-captains Ryan DePaoli (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Amanda Medin (Baltimore, Md.), who were both playing in their final collegiate home contests. Both have played instrumental roles in the resurgence of the Babson women's volleyball program, helping the Beavers increase their win totals in each of their four seasons, including 11 victories last fall. This year, they have led a young but talented squad to a spectacular campaign, including its best conference start in program history. Thanks in large part to their efforts, Babson has recorded the program's highest single-season win total since 2002 and its best winning percentage (.615) since 1993.
