Coast Guard Sweeps Volleyball, 3-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The United States Coast Guard Academy claimed its ninth consecutive victory with a 3-0 win over host Babson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball match at Staake Gymnasium on Tuesday night. The Bears, who won by set scores of 26-24, 25-12, and 28-26, improved to 23-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while the Beavers slipped to 12-14 overall and 4-4 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard was led by first-year Keriann Mason (Highland, Calif.), who recorded a match-high 12 kills to go with two blocks. First-year Lauren Bloch (Centennial, Colo.) added 11 kills in the victory, while first-year Karen Matic (Oswego, Ill.) dished out 34 assists.
Babson was paced by sophomores Nina Milovanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Meg Flaherty (Hollis, N.H.), who each recorded nine kills and nine digs in defeat. Senior tri-captains Caitlin O'Neill (Lynnfield, Mass.), Shanna Glassner (Orland Park, Ill.), and Becca Rydzik (Beacon Falls, Conn.) also played well in their final collegiate home match, as O'Neill recorded eight kills, Glassner posted 19 digs, and Rydzik recorded seven digs. First-year Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 31 assists, six digs, and four block assists, sophomore Alexa Untermann (Honolulu, Hawaii) added three kills and four block assists, and first-year Cathy Tinker (Woodbridge, Conn.) contributed one solo block and five block assists.
