Three From Women's Volleyball Named to NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Squad

BOSTON—Three members of the Babson College women's volleyball team were honored for their work in the classroom when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its academic all-conference team on Wednesday. Seniors Kristen Haislip (Waterford, Va.) and Lorraine Mackiewicz (Edison, N.J.) were both recognized for the third year in a row, while sophomore Mikayla Spears (Oxford, Wis.) was named to the squad for the first time.

Mackiewicz has had an impressive campaign averaging career highs of 2.58 kills, 1.91 digs and 0.82 blocks per set for the Beavers. She has recorded a team-high 253 kills to raise her career total to 891, good for fourth in program history, and with 80 total blocks on the year she has moved into second place on Babson's all-time list with 253.

Haislip has appeared in a career-high 25 matches and has registered a career-best 25 service aces to go along with 23 kills and 52 digs, while Spears has seen action in eight matches and has recorded at least one dig on four occasions.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2016 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Fourth-seeded Babson (18-12), the two-time defending NEWMAC Tournament champions, defeated Coast Guard in three sets on Tuesday night and will visit top-seeded MIT in a semifinal match on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cambridge.
