BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Catherine Hunter (Duxbury, Mass.) and first-years Gaby Miller (Miami, Fla.) and Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) combined for 44 kills to help the Babson College women's volleyball team erase a two-set deficit for a key 3-2 (16-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-16, 15-8) NEWMAC victory at Springfield College back on October 17.
After committing 17 errors over the first two games, the trio of Hunter, Miller and Puccio combined for 11 of the team's 13 kills as the Beavers rallied from a late 22-20 deficit to keep the match alive with a third-set win. The Green and White dominated the fourth set, hitting .278 with 16 kills and going ahead by as many as 10 points to force a decisive fifth game.
Babson trailed for much of the early part of the final game before scoring the final eight points to pull away for the win. Sophomore Elizabeth Cameron, who dished out 51 assists in the match, tied the frame at 7-7, while Puccio gave the Beavers the lead for good at 9-8 with one of her two fifth-set kills. Leading 11-8, Babson got a pair of kills from Miller, another from sophomore Kristin Carosotto (East Greenwich, R.I.) and a service ace from Cameron to close out the match.
The result marked just the third time since 2014 that Babson was able to rally for a win after dropping the first two sets.
