Program History

After achieving varsity status in 1980, the Babson women's volleyball program rose to regional prominence in the early 1990s, going a combined 74-30 over a four-year stretch. The Beavers' run of success culminated in 1993 with a 21-7 record and a third-place finish in the NEW 8--the team's highest conference finish ever.

Following some moderate success in the late 1990s, Babson returned to top form in 2001, going 17-12 for the team's highest win total in eight years. In addition, the Beavers once again ranked among the nation's leaders in service aces, recording 4.02 aces per game to place fourth in the country. The team then recorded another 17-win season in 2002, while claiming the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational Tournament Championship and qualifying for the NEWMAC Tournament for the first time in three years.

Following the return of program legend Tonya Strange '94 as the team's head coach in 2006, the Beavers have reached new heights in recent years. In 2007, Babson posted double-digit wins (11) for the first time in six years and earned its highest seeding in the conference tourney in more than a decade. Then this past fall, Babson posted an oustanding record of 16-12, tied for fourth in the conference standings - its best finish since 1993 - and earned the program's first-ever bid to the ECAC New England Tournament. The squad was led by star middle Caitlin O'Neill '10, who joined Strange, Barbara Wong, Alexa Schmidt, Cara McInnis, and Erika Varga as the only players in team history to earn All-Conference accolades.
