Patrick Helmas is entering his sixth season as an assistant women's volleyball coach at Babson in 2019.
Since arriving prior to the 2014 campaign, Helmas has helped the Beavers win three NEWMAC Tournament championships and make four NCAA Tournament appearances. Babson captured its third conference tournament title, swept three straight matches on the way to capturing the NCAA Tournament Babson Park Regional championship, and ended its historic 2018 campaign by advancing to the national quarterfinals for the first time in program history. The Green and White set a school record for wins in 2015 (28) and reached the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2017 after advancing to the second round in 2014 and 2015.
A 2011 graduate of Bryant University, Helmas joins the Beavers after spending two years as an assistant coach at nearby Lesley University. Involved with all aspects of the program, Helmas helped the Lynx to back-to-back fifth place finishes in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
Along with his collegiate experience, Helmas has extensive experience as a high school and club coach throughout the area. A former junior varsity coach at both Concord-Carlisle HS and Needham HS, he has been with the SMASH volleyball club since 2011, coaching the Boys 16U squad for each of the last two years. His U16 boys squad finished second at the 2013 New England Championships and then won the regional title in 2014.
A three-time all-tournament honoree while at Bryant and a two-time league all-star at Norwood HS, Helmas continues to shine on the court. His men's club team won the 2014 Adult Open national championship and he was selected to the all-tournament squad as a libero.
