WATERFORD, Conn.—The Babson College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action for the first time in nearly a month on Saturday at the Connecticut College Invitational. The Beaver men finished 19th out of 26 teams, while the women's squad placed 23rd overall at the Harkness Memorial Park Course.
In the men's race, the Green and White was once against paced by first-year Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.), who finished 85th with a time of 27:06. Sophomore Jonathan Miller (Westford, Mass.) came in 93rd with a time of 27:20, while first-year Ryan Vandervalk (Glen Rock, N.J.) crossed the finish line with a time of 27:53.
Sophomore Scott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.) posted a time of 28:14 and first-year Jake Fishkin (Hagerstown, Md.) finished the 8k course in a personal-best time of 28:15 to round out Babson's top five.
In the women's 6k race, first-year Chaela Hood (Plymouth, Mass.) finished as the Beavers' top harrier for the second time in three events with a time of 24:05, good for 83rd position. Classmate My-Linh DeBonis (Framingham, Mass.) posted a time of 25:41, while senior Katie Donovan (Darien, Conn.) recorded a personal-best time of 26:42.
First-year Emily MacDonald (East Sandwich, Mass.) crossed the finish line with a time of 26:48, and junior Amy Warner (Rockland, Mass.) trimmed nearly 90 seconds off her previous best time at the 6k distance, finishing the course in 30:57.
Babson will take next week off in preparation for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Sunday, November 1 at Franklin Park in Boston.
• Connecticut College will host the 2015 NCAA New England Championships at Harkness Memorial Park on November 14.
• The Beavers had not competed at the Connecticut College Invitational prior to Saturday since the 2007 season.
