NORTON, Mass.—Junior Matthew Dynan (Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) won their respective races as the Babson College men's and women's cross country teams opened the season by sweeping a dual meet at Wheaton College on Friday afternoon. The men defeated the Lyons for the third consecutive season, 19-42, while the women posted a 21-35 victory.
Rodriguez, who was making her collegiate debut, posted a time of 12:25 in the two-mile run to secure an 11-second victory over senior teammate Melanie Plattner (Fort Lee, N.J.). Junior Chaela Hood (Plymouth, Mass.) came in fifth with a time of 12:49, first-year Grace Regan (Kingston, N.Y.) was sixth with a time of 12:56 and classmate Emma Cavanaugh (Southbury, Conn.) finished just two seconds behind her in seventh place.
Camille Lewis (Cheshire, Conn.) gave the Beavers a sixth runner in the top 10 with her time of 13:02.
Dynan and senior John Decker (Parkland, Fla.) dominated the men's 5k race, finishing just five seconds apart and 40 seconds ahead of their closest competition. Dynan posted a winning time of 15:50, while Decker followed just behind him with a time of 15:55.
Senoir Jonathan Miller (Westford, Mass.) came in fourth in a time of 16:37 and was followed by classmate Scott Atwood (West Newbury, Mass.), who placed fifth in a time of 16:51. First-year Zach Goldberg (Westford, Mass.) finished seventh with a time of 17:20 in his collegiate debut, which was three seconds ahead of sophomore Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) and seven seconds faster than junior Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.).
• Dynan, who won the men's meet for the third consecutive season, trimmed 40 seconds off of 2016's winning time on Friday.
• Miller now owns three top-four finishes in the Beavers' dual meet against Wheaton.
• Plattner improved her two-mile time in last season's race by 26 seconds.
