WESTWOOD, Mass.-- The Babson College women's cross country team was picked to come in eighth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its annual preseason poll on Wednesday afternoon.
MIT, which captured its 11th consecutive league championship last fall, was a near unanimous selection to come in first after picking up 10 of 11 first-place votes. Coast Guard Academy was picked first on one ballot and came in second, while defending runner-up WPI was third. Wellesley College and Mount Holyoke College rounded out the top five.
The Beavers bring back 11 runners from a team that recorded its best finish (7th) and lowest point total (197) at the conference meet since 2011 last fall. Included in this group are the program's top two harriers and four runners that competed at both the conference and NCAA regional meets last year.
Babson gets the season underway with a dual meet at Wheaton on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
