WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College senior Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Rodriguez continued her great start to the season by recorded her first career victory the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State at the Doyle Conservation Center on Saturday. Her career-best time of 18:57 in the 5k is the seventh fastest in program history and the best by a Babson runner since 2014. Rodriguez also joined Lydia Halloran '05 and Marina Capalbo '15 as the only female harriers in school history to break the 19-minute mark in the 5k.
Rodriguez's win at Fitchburg State came on the heels of posting a second-place finish with a time of 12:29 in the 2-mile run during the Beavers' season-opening dual meet at Wheaton on August 30.
Babson, which will hold an alumni meet as part of the College's Centennial Celebration on September 21, returns to competition at the Keene State Invitational on October 5.
