BRUNSWICK, Maine—The Babson College men's and women's cross country teams braved cold conditions to compete at the NCAA New England Championships at the Pickard Field Course on the campus of Bowdoin College on Saturday morning. The women's team placed 25th overall with 766 points, while the men's team came in 26th with 831 points.
The Babson women were led by junior Emma Cavanaugh (Southbury, Conn.), who came in 55th overall with a time of 22:51 on the 6k course. Senior Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) finished just seven seconds behind her with a time of 22:58 to place 65th for the Beavers.
Junior Camille Lewis (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded a career-best time of 24:23 to post a 159th-place finish, while sophomore Amanda Karch (Sandwich, Mass.) cut 30 seconds off her previous best time, crossing the finish line in 26:02. First-year Laurel Roney (Mahomet, Ill.) recorded a time of 26:09, sophomore Nina Sitarski (Plainville, Mass.) ran a time of 26:23, and junior Caroline Winicki (Middlebury, Conn.) finished the 6k course in 26:45.
On the men's side, the Beavers' top finisher was first-year Gabriel Ortega (Pompano Beach, Fla.), who posted a time of 27:14 on the 8k course. Senior Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) set a new PR in his final collegiate race, crossing the finish line in 27:36, while sophomore Collin Regan (Pittsford, N.Y.) recorded a season-best time of 27:40.
First-year Dylan Raimondi (Quincy, Mass.) clocked in with a new personal-best time of 28:10, senior Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) crossed the finish line in 28:36, and sophomore Matthew Campbell (South Easton, Mass.) recorded a career-best time of 28:53. Sophomore Joseph Marwill (Hingham, Mass.) came in just over a tenth of a second behind Campbell for Babson.
