Men's Basketball Ranked First, Men's Ice Hockey Third Among Division III Programs
BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College Department of Athletics and Recreation was well represented when College Factual, in conjunction with its partner USA Today, released its 2017 rankings on Thursday. Eight programs were ranked in the top 25 of their respective sports, led by men's basketball, which came in first among 370 Division III colleges and universities, and men's ice hockey, which was third among 61 schools.
Babson had 11 of its 22 varsity programs ranked by College Factual, which works with NSCA Athletic Recruiting, to identify colleges and universities that excel in both academics and athletics. Factors that help determine the rankings include athletic competitiveness, overall college quality, financial and coaching resources, and the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
The men's soccer team finished 12th out of 358 teams, while both the men's lacrosse and men's golf programs were ranked 18th. The Beavers' baseball program came in 65th out of 332 schools.
Leading the way for Babson's women's programs was volleyball, which ranked 15th out of 357 colleges and universities. Basketball was 22nd out of 373 schools, soccer ranked 23rd out of 367 programs and softball was 34th out of 350 Division III colleges. Women's Lacrosse was also rated 91st among 228 programs.
