NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Babson College cross country teams ran their first full-length races of the season on Saturday, as the Beavers competed at the UMass-Dartmouth Corsair Invitational. The women finished 24th out of 42 scoring teams, while the men placed 30th out of 37 scoring squads.
On the women's side, first-year Charlotte Margel (Ridgewood, N.J.) led Babson with a time of 19:43, placing her 57th overall. Sophomore Michelle Black (San Diego, Calif.) came in 95th with a run of 20:24, followed by senior Vanessa Lovering (Hollis, N.H.) in 171st in 21:30.
Other runners in the women's race included senior captain Kristen Lang (Kennebunk, Maine), who took 206th in 22:04, and sophomore Colleen Carr (Brewer, Maine), who cut two full minutes off her personal record to place 209th in 22:07. First-year Jessica Lack (West Chester, Pa.) added a run of 22:35 to finish 230th, and sophomore captain Emiley McCole (West Bridgewater, Mass.) chopped more than a minute off her PR with a 23:41 to place 256th.
Competing without their top two runners, the Babson men still featured a number of strong runs. First-year Jake Williams (Scaggsville, Md.) posted the team's best finish, taking 102nd overall in 27:12, while sophomore Andrew Oram (Northborough, Mass.), sophomore Justin Bowman (Plymouth, Mass.), and junior captain Jordan Bray (Henderson, Nev.) all added personal bests for the Beavers. Oram took 146th in 28:12, Bowman came in 197th in 29:40, and Bray cut more than two minutes off his previous best to place 224th in 30:45. Also running well for Babson were first-years Mark Irwin (Essex, Vt.), who placed 227th in 31:00, and Chris Pierce (Wilton, Conn.), who was close behind in 228th with a time of 31:10.
