BOSTON, Mass. -- First-year Charlotte Margel (Ridgewood, N.J.) and sophomore Andrew Oram (Northborough, Mass.) each led their respective squad with solid performances as the Babson College cross country teams competed at the 2009 Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park on Saturday. The women's team finished 13th out of 23 schools in an impressive showing, while the men did not score as a team with only four harriers running.
Margel broke the 20-minute barrier for the second straight race, turning in a 19:47 to place 27th overall. It was the second fastest run by a Babson female at Franklin Park behind only Anna Gatker's effort of 19:16 back in 2003. She was joined in the top 100 by sophomore Michelle Black (San Diego, Calif.), who placed 46th with a time of 20:28, sophomore Colleen Carr (Brewer, Maine), who finished 91st in 22:17, senior captain Kristen Lang (Kennebunk, Maine), who came in 93rd in 22:20, and senior Vanessa Lovering (Hollis, N.H.), who took 96th in 21:27.
Also running well for the Babson women were first-year Jessica Lack (West Chester, Pa.), who placed 150th with a 23:02, sophomore captain Emiley McCole (West Bridgewater, Mass.), who came in 166th with a 23:44, and sophomore Wendy Glickenhouse (Red Hook, N.Y.), who finished 180th in 24:33.
Oram paced a short-handed men's squad with a personal-best time of 28:05, placing him 90th overall. He was followed by first-years Chris Pierce (Wilton, Conn.) in 162nd with a 31:48 and Mark Irwin (Essex, Vt.) in 167th with a 32:02, as well as junior Jordan Bray (Henderson, Nev.) in 171st with a 32:11.
Both teams will return to action next Saturday when they compete at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College.
