Men's Ice Hockey, Salem State Set to Open Season in Falmouth Next Saturday

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College men's ice hockey program will open the 2017-18 campaign on Saturday, October 28, when it takes Salem State University at 3:45 p.m. inside the Falmouth Ice Arena in Falmouth.

The Beavers and Vikings will renew their rivalry for the first time since 2014 and 48th time overall with all proceeds from the game going to the 10-19 Foundation. Dedicated in the memory of Falmouth High School student-athletes James Lavin and Owen Higgins, who were tragically killed in a car accident last December, the 10-19 Foundation's mission is to provide scholarships to senior football, hockey, baseball and track & field athletes at Falmouth HS, as well as financial aid to youth athletes to assist with their participation in sports programs.

"Playing in Falmouth will be a great opportunity for our program and Salem State to not only help grow Division III hockey exposure, but will also be an opportunity to support a local youth hockey and high school hockey community," commented Babson head coach Jamie Rice '90. (Falmouth HS coach) Paul Moore is a great advocate of youth hockey, Massachusetts Hockey and the MIAA, and we hope that our involvement with him and the Falmouth hockey community will help all of their programs and families. Having two relatively local and tradition-rich Massachusetts college hockey teams play off of our campuses and in the new Falmouth Ice Arena is a great way for us to give back. (Salem State head coach) Billy O'Neill has been a successful and lifelong devotee to the development of the Massachusetts hockey player and to partner with his program in this endeavor makes it more significant."

In addition to the game, the Babson Alumni & Friends network will be holding a post-game reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Falmouth Holiday Inn. Fans are encouraged to register for the event and should contact Lisa Alvezi at 239-781-4439 or at lalvezi@babson.edu with any questions.
