WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College women's cross country program was picked to finish eighth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday afternoon.
Coming off its 10th consecutive league title, MIT collected 10 of 11 first-place votes to grab the top spot in the poll. Last season's runner-up WPI earned the lone remaining first-place vote to come in second, while the Coast Guard Academy, Wellesley College and Smith College rounded out the top five.
The Green and White brings back nine runners from a team that came in eighth at last season's conference meet. The program posted their best finishes at both the NEWMAC and NCAA New England Championships since 2011 last fall.
Babson opens its season with a dual meet at Wheaton on Friday at 5 p.m.
